Differing from the previous explanations, the load moves through the rotating screw in the screw jack and the travelling nut. This means the screw does not move axially and does not move through the gear housing. Because no screw end or protective tube protrudes from the bottom, R-version screw jacks can be placed flat on construction surfaces.
